Martha Stewart Folds In Katonah Battle
Source
Martha Stewart has bailed ship in her attempts to trademark the name of her “hometown”—Katonah. According to NY Post reports, “Stewart couldn’t stand the heat she’s been getting from her upstate neighbors - so she got out of the kitchen.”
Apparently, Martha failed to show up at a church engagement in Bedford for a benefit signing of her book “Homekeeping Handbook” - but sent her apologies at the last minute.
According to Page 6 sources, “William Tisherman, who until recently was vice president of the Katonah Village Improvement Society (KVIS) and is one of Stewart’s most vocal opponents, said, ‘It wasn’t because of the weather.’”
Locals believe that Stewart feared the possible confrontation by “members of the KVIS, the town’s chamber of commerce, or other angry locals who claim she’s a bully for trying to co-opt the name of a town where she doesn’t even reside.”
“She lives in Bedford - not Katonah,” Tisherman told the NY Post.
Stewart’s rep seemed to confirm these beliefs, but put a little different spin on the wording by saying, “In light of recent media attention, Martha didn’t want to detract from the event, but she did sign every book that was sold and fulfilled her duties.”
Stewart has been under harsh criticism for trying to trademark the name “Katonah”. Stewart claimed that the town’s name had “inspired” her, then used it as a brand name for a line of products, as she has done with her Turkey Hill estate in Connecticut.
It looks as if the residents of Katonah have won the battle, thus far. Martha is a powerful lady, however, so she may be attempting to catch the townspeople with their guard down. We’ll be keeping an eye on the situation, bringing you the latest updates.
